The story of RTreporter starts in 2011 when one of the founders of RTreporter wants to analyze Tweets in order to discover the popularity of the articles he writes for different websites and blogs. A tool to track specific words is developed with extensive data mining capabilities.

As the founders of RTreporter have their roots in media and journalism, they realize that Twitter is a great source of information, and what an advantage it could be if the power of Twitter is harnessed to spot newsworthy events at an early stage before they are picked up by the traditional media.

In collaboration with VU University Amsterdam, the mathematical and semantic obstacles are overcome to produce a second version of RTreporter that gives a powerful insight into what is being talked about on Twitter.
