Trace
The powerful trend detection tool for Twitter. TRACE gives overview of what is being talked about right now on Twitter
The dynamic dashboard TRACE is the heart of RTreporter. It provides an overview of which topics are most popular. This is not about trending topics but topics that increase in popularity compared to the past. The purpose of TRACE is to provide an overview of what is being talked about right now on Twitter.
Example: the word “fire” is mentioned in Tweets 100 times a minute over the past 5 weeks. The dashboard will detect and show the word “fire” if it is suddenly mentioned 1500 times a minute, indicating a deviance in the trend. The sudden increase in Tweets containing the word “fire” probably means there is a fire somewhere.
TRACE is ideal for helping reporters to spot newsworthy events more easily and quickly than the competition. Emergency services can anticipate events or see how they develop. It can be used as a tool for audience tracking.
By using smart clustering of words, a user of TRACE can easily spot a subject that is worth investigating. If multiple words in one cluster are related and the cluster is increasing in size, you might be dealing with a “hot” cluster containing valuable information. TRACE is not a miracle worker so it cannot show “news”, that is still up to the user.
